Can a HDB resale home be both family friendly and chic? How about spacious but not empty?
Interior designer Jennifer Tan works her magic on this 26 year old 5 room HDB resale apartment in Bishan. As the homeowners are a family of five and have a helper, the renovated home principally needed lots of storage. Additionally, with the HDB renovation, the home should age well in terms of its design and structure.
Hence, a modern Scandinavian style was chosen for the 5 room HDB. Decked out in a unmistakable Scandinavian combination of birch and white laminates, the home adopts a modern touch with clean lines in the custom carpentry. Juz Interior’s in-house carpentry team took special care to design and craft cabinets which concealed the homeowner’s collection while showcasing important family mementos.
Renovation costs for this 5 room improved HDB was capped at $120K.
CHIC ENTRYWAY
A fine detail separating the HDB entryway from the living area, is the clever use of different grey tiles: a speckled granite finish for the entrance, and grey veined marble for the rest of the interior. The varied material and choice of grey colour exudes a touch of luxury.
ELEGANT HOUSE DESIGN
Excellent lighting sets the mood for this 5 room HDB resale home transformation. A combination of cove lighting and ambient lights diffuse a soft glow to create a relaxing ambience.
ORGANISED
CLASSY
Everything has its space in this 5 room HDB kitchen design. Designed as a galley kitchen to optimise the wide and long space, Jennifer mixes open shelves with cabinet units to maximise functionality.
Another detail, or lack thereof, is the kitchen cabinet design. Unlike most cabinet doors, these custom built ones have no handles. These flat-front cabinets with recessed pulls add the perfect, understated modern touch to the kitchen.
Bedrooms across the home incorporate a fully functional work from home and study space setup. Although incorporating a home office or study space into the bedroom seems tricky, selecting coordinating laminates and accessory colours is key. In the master bedroom, a mix of white and grey lend the bedroom a soothing feel, while looking strictly professional. Conversely, in the girl’s bedroom, purple trimmings add flair and youthfulness to the space.
