JALAN TENTERAM

feminine interior design

Unwind, glam up or host friends for a weekend in this two bedroom apartment’s pretty feminine interior. Although this 721 sqft bachelorette pad is a far cry from Carrie Bradshaw’s indulgent Upper East Side apartment, the tastefully designed space has just the right mix of luxuries for the modern Singaporean woman.

MODERN

To play up the feminine charm in this bachelorette pad, Alex ordered for taupe painted wall arches on the TV feature wall and dining area give the home a soft, modern and graphic look. Designing with paint is an affordable yet clever way to create a focal area in a small space. Secondly, muted colour tones make it easy to paint bold silhouettes that are easy on the eyes. For example, a strip of taupe paint extends from the ground to the ceiling. Thus accentuating the floral inspired pendant light which hovers over the simple dining area.

CREATIVE

The homeowner was initially inspired by the simple and clean look of Muji themed homes. However, she could not shy away from her grounding feminine energy. Hence, the living room is a creative compromise. Neutral tones combine with the ambient glow of the cove lighting for a warm inviting look.

bachelorette pad essentials

No bachelorette pad is ever complete without a vanity, walk-in wardrobe and of course, a bath tub.

Essentially, soft curves in an oblong fashion is synonym for a feminine interior. Hence Alex forgoes the traditional harsh, perpendicular cove lighting design for a sinuous one which traces the pink bedroom ceiling. Similarly, the motif is repeated in the custom built vanity table for a cohesive look. An egg shaped back lit mirror hangs above the floating counter top. Separating it, is a 2 inch room divider which bears a rounded rectangular peep-hole. To this, a small yet important detail is added. By chiselling a groove into the divider, any potential harshness from a completely flat surface is rooted out. Instead, the undulating surface adds to creating a gentle atmosphere.

A second request by the lovely homeowner was a walk-in wardrobe to make getting ready in the morning a breeze. However, the spatial limits and building restrictions of the 2 bedroom apartment required Alex to get creative. To this end, a portion of the wall between the master bedroom and the second bedroom was hacked. Following which, an approximately 2 x 3 metre runway was carved out to create a full height sliding wardrobe which runs parallel to the window (Watch the Home Tour Video for a better idea!).

Finally, the real gem in this gorgeous two bedroom apartment is hidden in the master bedroom: a full length bath tub. Brought up to the apartment to the apartment with a lift, the master is part spectacle part #goals. Colourful, patterned scallop tiles make for the perfect backdrop to unwind with bubbles (soapy or otherwise).
