TOH YI DRIVE

artful maisonette design

DESIGNED BY LOUIS TING

As a lover of the finer things in life, the newest owner of the Toh Yi Drive resale HDB maisonette wanted his renovated space to house his passions. From an extensive oriental art collection to the unexpected pops of cheerful pink, there is undeniable sophistication in the interior design.

The resale HDB maisonette renovation budget was kept to $80K.

HDB FLAT ART

As an avid art collector, the homeowner needed curated spaces to display them. Hence, the interior design of the living room is simple yet classic. Plaster moulding lines the ceiling in the renovated HDB resale flat for subtle framing.

HDB MAISONETTE BALCONY

Rather than an open air balcony, the HDB maisonette balcony is covered to create a conservatory. Furnished with rattan pieces and the quintessentially palm tree plant, the balcony is transformed into the perfect place for relaxing. Rather than a fully Asian themed house, the modern element is introduced by way of the chequered floor tiles.

HDB Kitchen Renovation

Although the rest of the home may have a strong modern, Asian aesthetic, the HDB kitchen design is quite the surprise. The blush of pink backsplash tiles interlace the white kitchen cabinet laminates, creating a soft, feminine look.

Secondly, the homeowner forgoes the traditional dining room for an attached kitchen table countertop that’s attached to the wall.

HDB Bedroom Design

The master bedroom is fully equipped with custom built furniture in dark teak wood.

First, the platform bed design which connects to both a display shelf and wardrobe for the HDB work wonders for space saving. Customised solutions fully maximise the space around the room while providing a cohesive look. Secondly, the l-shaped desk which trails around the other half of the room provides additional work surface.

In contrast, the interior design in the second bedroom is light and of course, pink! Wainscoting circumvent the room for a regal look.

HDB MAISONETTE STAIRCASE

A tricky space to decorate in a HDB maisonette tends to be the staircase. Luckily for this homeowner, the stairway lends itself as a gallery wall for the extensive art collection. The collection is illuminated by a modern chrome finish pendant light display.
