A modern contemporary HDB design doesn’t have to be cookie-cutter. This Alkaff Crescent HDB BTO injects a pop of bright blue to create an eye-catching masterpiece.
Most of the home’s living quarters takes its cue from life in London city. The brilliant blue hues echo the London sky and sights, while the mysterious greys recall the mists which fog the city during its seemingly endless drizzles. And so, it is without much surprise, that we see decor reminiscing happy times in London town or objects which incorporate these colour tones.
As a modern contemporary HDB design, the home is designed with clean, straight lines. For example, the custom carpentry shoe cabinet at the entrance of the hallway utilise the wood grain, to create an intriguing v-shaped detail. The repetitive pattern is mirrored in abstract but less intense fashion in the feature wall’s grid lines. Diagonal lines like these give the illusion of expanse for small spaces. Moreover, the stream of natural light which bounces off the matte white surfaces make the space airy and light. This important when using an intense colour like blue since it can adverselly dampen the atmosphere of a room.
In this 3-room HDB BTO kitchen design, the concept was to keep smell and noise away from the rest of the home. Thus, two sets of black frame aluminium swing doors are used. One is used to separate the yard from the kitchen and the other between the kitchen and living room. Since the allocated space is narrow, a galley kitchen design concept is perfect for both movement and storage. Furthermore, repeating the modern contemporary motif of clean lines, thin boxes are etched into the custom cabinet drawers. Finally, ornate patterned tiles line the backsplash for a fun play on the blue and gray motif.
