2021 Interior Design Trends
The global COVID-19 pandemic has left an indelible mark on homeowners’ taste and preferences. With more of us staying indoors and working from home, you’ll notice more functional home design. Similarly, the colour palettes are warm and inviting; a major shift from the monochrome, industrial interior design trend we’ve seen in the last few years.
Here are 6 interior design trends and how you can incorporate them in your home.
1. JAPANDI
What is Japandi: A mix between Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, this interior design style espouses minimalism, functionality and an overall sense of calm.
How to have a Japandi Home: Emphasise on clean lines and bringing lots of light into the room. Additionally, avoid any unnecessary home decor. Remember, clutter = chaos. Finally, opt for sustainable solutions where possible.
2. EARTHY AND WARM COLOUR TONES
What are Earthy and Warm Colour Tones: Think brown, taupe, camel and beige. Individually, these earthy colours exude a sense of groundedness. Put them together, and you’ve got yourself a cosy home.
How to Incorporate Earthy and Warm Colours: Instead of slapping on brown paints across your wall, choose to incorporate these shades in home decor items. Natural materials like rattan and stone in the accessories are an excellent way to sneak these trendy colours in.
3. CURVE FORMS AND ARCHES
What is the Curve Trend: Luscious and plump, round shapes are in trend for 2021. This is a sharp detour from the industrial style we’ve seen over the last few years.
How to Embrace Curves in Interior Design: Fully embrace the style through physical structure, or tastefully incorporate archs and curves through home accessories. What is Biophilic Design: This interior design trend intertwines human interaction with nature indoors.
How to Add Plants in Interior Design: Although the trend has been around for quite some time, one way to update the trend in 2021 is to replace fresh plants with dried flowers and leaves.
6. LUXURIOUS MINIMALSIM
What is Luxurious Minimalism Interior Design: As staycations become a popular means of escapism, it’s no surprise that some of us want a piece of it in our own home. In this trend, the goal is for a clean finish and clutter-free space. Naturally, the materials selected should be ones of high quality.
How to Achieve the Luxurious Minimal Look: Choose luxurious textures to add oomph to a space. For example, choose silks and suede over cotton or polyester. Secondly, to keep the space clutter free, choose decorative items carefully and keep the quantity to a minimum. Choose a design that balances form and function.
