Pastel home interiors came prancing into the home design scene with the rise of Korean cafe-style aesthetics. A far cry from shocking neon associated with KPOP bands, the cafe aesthetic is mellowed. However, that’s not to say that the interiors are boring with neutrals like beige. Instead, soft creamy colours and thoughtfully placed decor and furniture pieces define the Korean pastel aesthetics. Additionally, a play on muted colours evoke a dreamy ambience peppered with spontaneity.
With fancies governed by these principles, the interior design for the 4 room HDB BTO in Punggol’s Edgefield Pains was pieced together. The total cost of the BTO renovation was $40 490.
KITCHEN PARTITION WALL
For a cute and homey feel, a gypsum board partition is erected between the kitchen and dining area. After all, what’s more cafe-style like than kitchen to table?
SPONTANEOUS
The old kitchen cabinets were hacked off and removed. In its place are a powder blue kitchen cabinet design with top and bottom shelving. Secondly, new engineered quartz from Lian Hin in Nougat were installed for a fun sparkly look!
Overall, the HDB BTO living room design is kept simple yet cosy. Interior designer, Summer Lim, uses two methods to achieve this.
Firstly, the furniture pieces tend to be wood or rattan. Hence, the organic materials lend a charming country vibe. Moreover, the custom built full height shoe cabinet at the entryway in a light oak laminate integrates effortlessly with the rest of the home.
Secondly, the installation of a brick stucco wall enhances the cosy atmosphere of the HDB BTO Korean pastel home. A simple cost effective solution to dress up the home!

Next, the bedrooms. Firstly, the all three bedrooms had new vinyl flooring installed. Moreover, the 5mm planks selected in a light walnut colour come coated in NANO silver technology for improved durability.
Secondly, of the three bedrooms in the Punggol HDB, two were renovated to include customised carpentry solutions. Juz Interior’s in-house carpentry team worked on installing new full-height wardrobes as well ledges. For instance, in the second bedroom, brass handle affixed doors make space for the homeowner’s personal collection of bags. Nevertheless, the space is simple and clean in terms of colour and decor. There is no sign of overtly modern decadence.

Finally, the bathrooms. Most work was done to improve the appearance of the master bedroom toilet. Instead of hacking off the existing tile, the homeowners opted to overlay new tiles. In the master bedroom toilet, a glossy light blue ceramic subway tile design works well with the matching pastel pink vanity cabinet set.
While much of the tile design remains for the common bathroom in the Edgefield Plains HDB BTO, a frameless aluminium shower screen is installed. This helps maintain a wet and dry section in the toilet.

Despite the modest budget, homeowners achieved the home of their dreams. The adorable Korean cafe-style aesthetics makes the 4 room BTO a great place for afternoon tea and maybe even a cat nap.
